WHOCC CHN-26 contributed to WHO guidance for essential oral health service in COVID-19
The WHO interim guidance "Considerations for the provision of essential oral health services in the context of COVID-19" has been officially launched on 14th August. Professor Zheng Shuguo, co-director of WHOCC CHN-26, provided intensive technical support and had been acknowledged in this guidance. The guidance is available now in all 6 UN languages English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese HERE: https://apps.who.int/iris/handle/10665/333625
WHOCC CHN-26 performed intensive research work in collaboration with WHO regarding provision of essential oral health services during COVID-19. Professor Zheng Shuguo and Dr Zhang Shanshan wrote and submitted a report of 'COVID 2019 and dental practice in China' to WHOCC headquarter, to summarize current evidence and experience on how stomatological hospitals and dental clinics responded to this pandemic in China, and to provide technical advices on the disease prevention and control in dental settings.
The purpose of this document is to address specific needs and considerations for essential oral health services in the context of COVID-19 in accordance with WHO operational guidance on maintaining essential health services. In the guidance, WHO advises that routine non-emergency care – such as oral health check-ups, dental cleaning and preventive care – be delayed until there has been sufficient reduction in COVID-19 transmission rates, from community transmission to cluster cases, or according to official recommendations at national, sub-national or local level.
