As a branch of Peking University School of Stomatology, the First Clinical Division is a medium scaled specialized dental institution.

Peking University School of Stomatology was established 1941 in Xishiku Avenue, Xicheng District in Beijing. Owing to the need of development of the hospital, the School was moved to its new campus in Baishiqiao Road, Haidian District, Beijing in 1985. After the movement, the hospital was referred to as "the general hospital" and the original location was renamed as "the branch hospital". The branch hospital was renamed as “the First Clinical Division” in 2000. Currently, with a hospital building area of 7200 square meters, the first clinical division is comprised of six professional clinical departments of endodontics, periodontology, prosthodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery. Besides, the First Clinical Division also have two comprehensive departments: Department of special clinics and Department of General Dentistry. There are more than 360 full-time employees and 123 dental units for daily clinical service.

Under the unified management of Peking University School of Stomatology, the First Clinical Division employs the integration model of teaching, clinical care, and research.

The first clinical division strikes to provide high standard patient care and specific clinical research fields includes aesthetic prosthesis, porcelain restoration, implants, microscopic endodontic treatment, pediatric dental treatment under general anesthesia, comfort dental extraction, dental extraction under electrocardiographic monitoring and digital radiographic diagnosis. We provided an effective management mode of antisepsis for dental handpiece where a system called "one handpiece for one patient" firstly. And the First Clinical Division functions as one of the demonstration sites of control of cross infection in dentistry of the National Health Commission.

In the realm of training and educational innovation, the programs of the First Clinical Division currently include the knowledge and clinical education of undergraduate students, the skilled clinical technique training of postgraduate students, the standardized training of resident dentists in Beijing, Post-graduate clinical training for overseas dentists, and clinical training of advanced dentists from all over the country. Furthermore, More than ten national and academic continuing education courses will be held in the First Clinical Division every year.

Over the years, the First Clinical Division has selected a group of young and middle-aged professionals with strong scientific research ability and development potential to study abroad. Besides, more than thirty dentists have been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation, Beijing Natural Science Foundation and school-level and institute-level projects.

The First Clinical Division is also committed to share dental health knowledge through a comprehensive range of service activities with the local and national communities.
