Peking University School of Stomatology holds an accustomed place at the forefront of oral disease prevention in China and, in recent decades, has particularly sought to develop preventive dentistry domestically.
In 1981, it was authorized by the World Health Organization as China’s first research and training center for preventive dentistry.
It remains the nation’s only such center and, over the last thirty years, has trained hundreds of preventive-dentistry experts through the hosting of lectures, workshops, and symposia.
In 1989, the School of Stomatology worked with China’s central government to establish the annual celebration of “National Teeth-Loving Day.”
It has advocated similarly, in the last decade, for the initiative “The New Long March for Oral Health.” In the past twenty years, it has administered China’s national epidemiological survey regarding oral disease three times thus far.
The School places enormous emphasis on serving the greater good beyond its own walls.
In addition to the aforementioned nationwide endeavors, it also provides for the populace a variety of community outreach programs free of charge; including continuing education, stomatological consultations, and treatment.
