Department of pediatric dentistry, founded in 1951, combined clinical service, teaching and research.

It has the first pediatric dentistry branch discipline since 2002; the first state-level continuing education base in pediatric dentistry since 2004; the first and presently the only department that was authorized pediatric dentistry doctorate degree since 2007.

It is also the chief editor site of state -compiled textbook  pediatric dentistry.

Department of pediatric dentistry has 10 senior title staff, 24 dentists (22 with graduate degree), out of which 19 has doctorate degree (5 have gained doctorate degree in UK and Japan).

 
At present, there are 27 dental units in clinic, and an independent dental laboratory and tow general anesthesia treatment rooms, all of which have made the department function as the leader of pediatric dentistry in China.

 
The daily clinical service in the Department of pediatric dentistry, PKUSS includes: prevention and treatment of dental caries in the child and adolescent; treatment of endodontic and periapical disease; minimally invasive techniques; management of dental trauma; treatment of the developmental disturbances of the teeth; management of the developing occlusion; treatment for children with disabilities; treatment of dental problems in children with genetic /systemic disease, etc.

On average, the department's  daily outpatient capacity is around 250.
